12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos by Jordan B. Peterson

When you here the word “rules,” it sounds constricting. But, the stories and context around the “rules” makes this book worth a read. Confusing and long winded at times (could be my brain cruising in 5th gear most times), this book gives people an insight into the insanely intellectual and wonderful mind of Jordan Peterson.

I’ve enjoyed listening to talks and podcasts from this man for sometime now. The first person who introduced me was Prof. Tim Noakes in 2018. The rest is history.  He has exploded the internet.

I believe everyone can gain immense benefit from this book. Specifically entitled middle class individuals who believe the world owes them everything.

Quote I’m Contemplating

Our task in life consists precisely in a form of letting go of fear and expectations, an attempt to purely give oneself to the impact of the present.
— Michael Pollen, How To Change Your Mind

Recently, I finished — along with 12 Rules of life mentioned above — Michael Pollens masterful and insightful book, How To Change Your Mind. The subtitle — What the New Science of Psychedelics Teaches Us About Consciousness, Dying, Addiction, Depression, and Transcendence — perfectly illustrates the magnitude of this book.

I will most definitely be writing a review, but for now this quote is something we can all learn from. “Letting go of fear and expectations” will grant you a life of ample happiness and love. Fear can be a safety buckle, that when used correctly can be a driving force — but, when put to the wrong use, can strangle us and prevent progress. We tend to hold expectations with a firm grip that always fucks us in the worst possible ways.
